AYAM's Music and Loc Journey

You may have been warned that you won't get a job, accepted into a school, or just won't be taken seriously. Your loc journey may have all types of challenges that you don't know how to face, but we're here to tell you, you are not alone!

We sat down with AYAM (Pronounced “I Am”) to learn more about her Loc Journey of 2 years. Read what she had to say below:

Do you remember what inspired you to grow locs?

“I think what mostly inspired me was being able to wear my natural hair and it grow strong and long”

What's the most important lesson you've learned along your hair journey?

“Patience.”

What advice would you give to a person that wants to loc their hair?

“Go for it, but be patient. Once you realize how it’s okay to be in the “ugly stage” or for your new growth to show l, you’ll embrace the beauty”

Do you have any hair tips you'd like to share?

“Keep it moist, and keep it wrapped at night. Don’t retwist too often.”

What is your go to hairstyle?

“Messy Bun & Middle part”

What does professionalism mean to you?

“Professionalism means handling situations in a certain manner, that takes all influences into account (the setting, the topic, the audience) and acts accordingly”

What's something you enjoy doing or what's one thing you're passionate about?

“Making music, singing”

Lastly, is there anything else you’d like to share?

Piano Written by Dominique Williams Composed by Chris Miller @ Blue Magic Recording Produced by Maxx Forman @ Dojo Sounds Piano is AYAM's first released sing...

“I am a singer, I have only been doing this for about two years. My loc’s helping give me the confidence to step out on that stage.”

You said that your locs help give you the confidence to step out and perform on stage, do you mind sharing a little bit more about this?

“I didn’t have to worry about my hair looking a certain way to go with my brand. I could step out confidently knowing I would always have my locs”

Who are some artists in the music industry that inspire you?

“Inspirations - Jazmine Sullivan, Usher, Brandy, Micheal Jackson, H.E.R”

So if you had to pick one person that you’d like to collab with, who would that be?

“Big KRIT. I love him. I love the way his music makes me feel, his message. It’s empowering but real shit”

Thank you AYAM for sharing your your loc journey with us and we’re really excited to watch your music career grow and to see a single featuring Big Krit to come into fruition.
